Holi !!

It was the most excited festival in my childhood !

Me and my friends started its(dhulenti's) preparation a day before.

We prepared water balloons and colors !

We lives in Flats so it was like a "war" between blocks !

Children from one block play with another children of block !

We started to play holi at early morning about 8 O'clock !

We play holi till afternoon and after lunch parent's holi will start !

A group of our parents went to neighbour's home to celebrate holi with different colors !

It was great pleasure to see all this !

But as i grown up . . . . i just stop to celebrate holi in that way since 5 years !

Today i saw many children in my flat who celebrate holi still this way !

Though, today I and my friends still remember that moments and they still alive in our heart and mind !

The innocence of childhood makes this festival so much joyful !

I still miss that days

It is indeed the festival of color and the time when everyone just drowns in these awesome colors of love forgetting all their age old enemies

We all are certainly looking forward to the 27th, more so the kids who have real fun with their friends. Oh yes…I remember those different type of guns and various colors – not to mention those grease paints etc. that kids would ask for when they were young. But I’m glad they are past that phase and play it more like us adults now. However, playing with the dry colors is more environment friendly and if they are natural colors – all the more better for your skin as well.

I suggest to go with tips of oiling your hair and even the exposed parts of the body as you never know who is using what kind of color on you – so need to be careful. Yes, wear old clothes, though some people like wearing all whites as the colors come out vibrant on white We never travel during Holi because of the scare and also because for festivals one prefers being home.

Ah…the Bhang and playing cards that carry on well late at night are something people love too.

In actual practice, 'Gulal' in my local language, alongwith few soft colours must be specified legally for using in Holi to enjoy the festival safely with fun. People violting this must be counted as socio-cultural criminals.

Now, people use chemical dyes, that are difficult to wash and harmful for ‘eyes’ and ‘skin’.

Yes these type of pranks are very common with school kids. Even now people fill those balloons with excreta and throw at people which is absolutely disgusting thing to do.

Even on diwali some people misues the fire crackers and specially with the rockets. Some kids aim it such a way so that it explodes very near to some one and it can be a fatal accident.

Such beautiful festivals are meant to cherish and enjoy with friends and families. But incidents like these spoil it totally.

Every festival comes with joy & ends with lots of memories. I will make my this holi memorable with lots of thing. me & my best friends will going to celebrate ECO FRIENDLY & today morning we made eco-friendly colours using different fruits and flowers at home as well as my friend know how to make. Also planning to encourage others to play eco-friendly Holi by distributing eco-friendly colours one day before Holi. We will not wasting water as we also suffering from it earlier so thats the best also. Please Stay away from alchohol, bhang & thandai. Spreading smile across & play safe holi is my only wish to fan of IFS & my all friends.

There was once a demon king by the name of Hiranyakashyap who won over the kingdom of earth. He was so egoistic that he commanded everybody in his kingdom to worship only him. But to his great disappointment, his son, Prahlad became an ardent devotee of Lord Naarayana and refused to worship his father.

Hiranyakashyap tried several ways to kill his son Prahlad but Lord Vishnu saved him every time. Finally, he asked his sister, Holika to enter a blazing fire with Prahlad in her lap. For, Hiranyakashyap knew that Holika had a boon, whereby, she could enter the fire unscathed.

Treacherously, Holika coaxed young Prahlad to sit in her lap and she herself took her seat in a blazing fire. The legend has it that Holika had to pay the price of her sinister desire by her life. Holika was not aware that the boon worked only when she entered the fire alone.

Prahlad, who kept chanting the name of Lord Naarayana all this while, came out unharmed, as the lord blessed him for his extreme devotion.

Thus, Holi derives its name from Holika. And, is celebrated as a festival of victory of good over evil.

Holi is also celebrated as the triumph of a devotee. As the legend depicts that anybody, howsoever strong, cannot harm a true devotee. And, those who dare torture a true devotee of god shall be reduced to ashes.

Even today, people enact the scene of 'Holika's burning to ashes' every year to mark the victory of good over evil.

In several states of India, specially in the north, effigies of Holika are burnt in the huge bonfires that are lit. There is even a practice of hurling cow dungs into the fire and shouting obscenities at it as if at Holika. Then everywhere one hears shouts of 'Holi-hai! Holi-hai!'.

The tradition of burning 'Holika' is religiously followed in Gujarat and Orissa also. Here, people render their gratitude to Agni, the god of fire by offering gram and stalks from the harvest with all humility.

Further, on the last day of Holi, people take a little fire from the bonfire to their homes. It is believed that by following this custom their homes will be rendered pure and their bodies will be free from disease.

At several places there is also a tradition of cleaning homes, removing all dirty articles from around the house and burning them. Disease-breeding bacteria are thereby destroyed and the sanitary condition of the locality is improved.

बूढी आँखों के अब मददगार भी नहीं आते,

गए है जबसे शहर में कमाने को लड़के ,

हमारे गाँव में त्यौहार भी नहीं आते।

मित्रो ! छुट्टी अगर मिल गई है तो आप घर पर होंगे ही ,माता -पिता के साथ,लेकिन अगर छुट्टी नहीं मिली तो मोबाइल पर होली के इस अनुपम त्यौहार पर उनके साथ जरूर रहिएगा।आपकी आवाज उन्हें आपके अपने पास रहने का एहसास जरूर कराएगी और उन्हें इस बात का ढाढस भी देगी की बेटा कमाने गया है फिर भी हमारा ध्यान दे रहा है।क्योंकि होली के दिन हर माँ- बाप बेटे को अपने पास पाकर फूला नहीं समाता है,ये एक सच्चाई है।

Holi is festival of colours where everybody enjoys colouring each other where strangers becomes friend and its favorite festival for everybody as they can play with water in hot summer. But as modern holi most of us use tomato and egg instead of colours and some uses harmful chemicals thats very bad for health. As it is one of the most ancient festivals in the country, there are thousands of legends associated with this festival. However, the most interesting of them is the Krishna- Radha’s love story. Another legend associated with Prahlada and Hirankashyapa reminds one of the victories of ‘Good over Evil’. On a whole, Holi reminds us of the fact that love and truth are two divine forces in the Universe. Several poets have expressed the naughtiness, the spirit and the gusto and the divine message of Holi in their poems. Holi is the festival of colors that makes the triumph of goodness over evil. We prepare traditional and delicious items to make this happy occasion more special.

Banana Balls Recipe

Ingredients

half kg fully ripe Bananas

half cup Coconut (scratched pieces)

4 tbsp Sugar

half tsp Cardamom Powder

Few Cashew Nuts

Few Raisins

4 tbsp Maida

coconut oil (for frying)

2 tbsp Ghee

How to make Banana Balls:

Place bananas in a pan and steam them. Remove and slice into round pieces.

Heat ghee in a pan and add bananas, sugar, cardamom powder, coconut, cashew nuts, and raisins. Mix well and cook covered on low flame for 3 minutes.

Remove from heat and mash the mixture finely.

Shape into small round balls.

Mix maida with little water in a bowl to make a smooth thin paste.

Dip the banana balls into the maida mix.

Heat oil in a frying pan and fry the balls until golden on all sides.

Serve hot.

Last year Holi was one of the best experience what I had celebrated in my office.

IN holi day our office was open. So we kept a good fun event.First we played Holi different colors among yourself. Then there was a surprise for everybody. We had a competition .

The competition is about Face painting with different febric colors.

There were 6/7 teams and each team has 5 members. And we have to decorate one member between us with the fabric color and with any decorative things.

The best face painting will get award. In my team my colleagues choosed me for face painting.

You can see the my face painting photo with the attachment. I am in blue color t-shirt (first from right) and fulll dangerous and scary looks.

We had 1 hour time to decorate. My team member did good job.

And we won the prize. And the worst part came after that..

When after the even I tried to wash my face 50% color did not remove as colors are dried up totally. After trying my level best I came to home with the same half decorative face.

Funny part. Many people in the bus, on the road and even my neighbors saw me and laughed. I was feeling so shy. When I reached home and my 2 years baby saw me , she was so scared that she did not come to me for 2 days. ha ha ha..It was most special memorable day memorable day....
